Larry received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from California State University, San José and his Masters of Arts and Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Oregon where he was trained in comparative biochemistry of non-vertebrate respiratory proteins. Larry's recent research interests center on gamete interactions and signaling and include the structure and function of receptors on sperm involved in the activation of sperm motility by factors from the female reproductive system. In addition, he continues his long-standing interest in the structure and function of extracellular hemoglobins and hemocyanins. He specializes in the identification and purification of integral membrane receptors and the use of photoaffinity labels and chemical cross linking agents, gel electrophoresis, HPLC and protein sequencing of hydrophobic peptides.
